Here is the blank we'll use.  Note that I've allowed some extra wood on the top where the thumb will go.

The first thing to do is to seperate the thumb from the rest of the hand. I draw a line where I'll make my first cut.

Next, I draw a line where the first set of knuckles start.

Using my own hand as a guide I take off that angle.

Turning the hand over to the palm I indicate the last finger joints and outline the shape of the thumb.

Now...if you look at your own hand you'll note that the knuckles do not line up exactly straight as each finger is a different length.  I indicate that here and carve that joing to reflect that.  I'll do the same for all the knuckle planes.
