I did this scene quite a few years ago but, looking back through the old Blog, couldn’t find any type of reference to it. So, as it was just put through a minor update, I’ll give the complete story behind why I made it.
I can’t remember exactly when, but years ago Seniors were given a government rebate, can’t remember just how much. Well, Granny, out walking her dog on a cold winters day, noticed a sign in the window of a local Tattoo parlor that offered a special discount to the older set. By the looks of the old lady, she’s giving it some serious thought. That was the idea and that is what I built the scene to reflect.
A couple weeks ago I decided that I would bring things up to date by removing the Rebate sign in the window as it was now pretty well outdated and detracted from the piece. I decided that I would replace the window with a piece of reflective glass that would bring things to the present while at the same time allow the viewer to see the other side of the figure which was partially hidden by her pose. To do this I cut a new piece of glass and, with some reflective film applied to the back, replaced the existing window. That took a bit of careful work but it solved the update problem and now the figure of Granny can be seen from all sides.
I learned a good lesson while redoing this scene…. while certain things can seem quite humorous at the time but that humor can disappear as time passes to where the original thought or intent is completely lost. Hopefully, I’ll remember that in the future!
