Native American – Part 3

Native American – Part 3

Aside from a little touch up on the face we are now ready to set it aside for a while to start considering the type of a body and detail we can use for the bust.  As this is a teaching exercise I think we will keep it simple but still add enough details to give you a workout.  I really like the off-the-shoulder robe look and that’s the one at the top of the list for me.  What’s yours?

So, I think the hardest part is now behind us with the completion of the face of our figure.  The next steps are not entirely downhill from there but they will be a little easier and more enjoyable as you see your carving take on it’s overall size.  Here are some examples of past figures I’ve completed that show what’s possible.

Comments welcome as always.

I might be a little man in a big world but on our 30 acres I'm the one in charge when the wife's not around!

Getting to carve along with you on this project is great. I’ve learned something new in each video. I think a robe off the shoulder look would be good.

The Eyes Have It. Thanx for this instruction. You sure made it look easy. Hope I can replicate the technique.

It’s hard to make a decision as to what body to use. Love all the styles you do. The detail is what you great my friend.

I am really enjoying this project! I have arthritis and normally carve much smaller pieces. I was worried that I would lose lots of the detail with the smaller size but not so far!

Love your work. I live in Virginia but have always been drawn to the Native American culture. Appreciate all of your work sharing with the rest of us.

I like them all but I think the off the shoulder robe is my favorite. I am having trouble with the forehead on my piece. I am losing most of it. Trying to re-draw my pattern so that I can move things down a bit. Hope that works!
The eyes are not as easy as you make them seem but my fellow can see. Ha!

I hope people don’t resent me but nothing touches my heart and brings happiness to the day as much as just looking at your chuck wagon cooks I found you on you tube yesterday but after looking through a lot of your creations if it is possible something I would be happy to see is an image similar to cat Baloo in the movie the drunken cowboy sitting on the drunken horse leaning against the drunken shed just a thought really have enjoyed looking through your past presentations
