Back Draft

Well, that guy certainly has the right idea this morning. Lucky guy!   It’s 16 below freezing outside and I’m setting here waiting for the furnace to start up.  My Grandparents had a pot-bellied stove just like that one which they moved back into the house each winter once the mercury started to drop. Many a frosty morning we would be found warming our buns around that stove.  Memories!

The stove in this scene was made in several parts…the base with the feet, the central bulk of the stove and finally the top with the chimney.  I did it this way to build strength into the piece.  The coal hod is carved and filled with cat litter material painted black to resemble coal.  Naturally, there is a coffee post heating up on the stove.  The character forgot one sock in his rush to the heat and those long johns could use some mending.

I really enjoy creating these scenes as it always allows me to place my figures into different situations along with challenge of creating new details.  Add to that the smiles on the viewers faces makes it all worth while.

I might be a little man in a big world but on our 30 acres I'm the one in charge when the wife's not around!
