I think this is one of my best figures with some excellent details. What’s a Cowboy without his Saddle or his horses bit, headstall and reins? Out of a job, that’s what! I spent a lot of time to make sure I got the details of each item in his rig as accurate as possible. The saddle is one piece except for the cinches and ties. I made the main cinch out of a piece of Tupelo wood as it is very easy to bend. Once it was carved and soaked in water I positioned it in place over the saddle to dry with a couple of rubber bands bent it to where it draped over the saddle. For the rear cinch I just used some leather strips as I did with the saddle ties. The ties are held in place with some brass nails. The lasso or lariat is twisted wire coiled and attached to the saddle with a leather tie. The horses bit is made from wire, pounded flat with the end rings soldered on. The bits mouth piece is soldered in place as is the small chain which is from a piece of jewelry I picked up at Walmart. One of the most amazing things about a horses bit is that the horse was designed with a space between his teeth to accept it. Amazing!
So, with his hat cocked back, his saddle. lasso and horse gear, he’s got his eye on a fresh cayuse and a day of rockin’ in the saddle. I think I can already hear him singing.
