Mountain Man

Mountain Man

Boy!  This is an early one.  I remember back in the 80’s when Judy and I were out in the wilds of eastern Rwanda, coming across that piece of drift wood.  It is probably from an Acacia tree.  Picking it up I knew that one day it would make a great mount for a future carving.  Once settled into our retirement home here in Oklahoma, that carving would be of a Mountain Man on the lookout while navigating a steep mountain slope.  I only wish I had better photos of the piece as I really like the attitude of the figure and the horse.

Comments welcome.

I might be a little man in a big world but on our 30 acres I'm the one in charge when the wife's not around!

Great composition! You really captured the horses stance going downhill and the riders positioning. And as always great carving. I would love to carve a horse and rider someday and it would probably be an Appaloosa.
Are you still selling carvings? My wife gifted me with “Arbuckle” years ago for my birthday day. Would love to have a standing American Native. I was surprised you were still offering a site. I thought you had stopped quite a while ago. Very pleased to see your work. Your carvings are incredible.
