What’s a Cowboy without his saddle? I’ve carved a gazillion of them and they seem to leave the show table as soon as they’re set out. Santas, Gnomes, carved roughouts? Forget it! Carve a couple Saddles and watch how fast they disappear! You can’t miss…I guarantee it! I’ve included lots of photos below along with a photo teaching guide I did about 10 years ago should you what to try make your own. They’re not that hard to do. I show that there are several ways you can mount your saddle. I especially like using a pony horseshoe with horseshoe nails for that authentic look. Just click on the photos to get a larger picture.
Comments welcome.
Lynn I have been watching your how to videos for a couple of years now, they started me on my western carvings. I don’t expect you to answer this comment but here is my question as red oxcide is no longer available you mentioned in one video your alternative mixture to skin tones. Could you share that again please. Regards, Jim
You can still get RIO on Amazon. It’s not cheap but I’ve found that color lasts a long time. Great when mixed with yellow ochre for a transparent flesh color or for underpainting if you want a really rich red when pure red is overpainted. Hope that helps!!
