It was challenge to construct this one. The windmill was based on the wooden windmill towers we saw on a trip through west Texas. The fan was made from tin ductwork. The Aero pump motor and the other fan and pipe components were also made from metal and wire. I turned the water tank on my lathe and then carved the outer detail. Once the water was painted inside I poured in some clear epoxy to give it a shiny surface. Judy was kind enough to pose so I got the cowboy’s action correct in hanging out his clothes to dry. While the title of the piece was West Texas Tank, there was a third line on the nameplate that quotes a horse saying “It wasn’t so bad until he put the socks in!”
The collector who was lucky enough to receive it lived out in California so once finished we took the opportunity to drive it out as I thought it was much too fragile to risk any other way.
Comments welcome.
