Arbuckles Best

As I’ve posted all the digital photos I’ve taken over the years, I thought I’d complete the inventory by trying to bring in the carvings that I photographed with my old Pentax SLR camera.  As you can see by the photo below, I’ve got quite a few characters pigeoned holed in that box.  It will take a while so I hope you’ll stick with me while I transfer them over to the Blog.

The first one up is “Arbuckles Best”!  I think it was carved back in 2000.  As a lot of you already know….Arbuckles was the coffee of choice back in the Old West.  It’s still around and you can find it on Amazon.  Here’s a little history copied from their website:

“Arbuckles’ Coffee began in the post Civil War Era of the 19th Century. Two brothers, John and Charles Arbuckle, initiated a new concept in the coffee industry; selling roasted coffee in one pound packages. Until that time, coffee was sold green and had to be roasted in a skillet over a fire or in a wood stove. You can imagine the inconsistency of the coffee. One burned bean ruined the whole batch. The Arbuckle Brothers were able to roast a coffee that was of consistently fine quality and the first to be packaged in one pound bags.

Arbuckles’ Ariosa Blend became so popular in the Old West that most cowboys didn’t even know that there was any other. Arbuckles’ Coffee was prominent in such infamous cow towns as Dodge City and Tombstone. To many of the older cowboys, Arbuckles’ Ariosa Blend is still known as the Original Cowboy Coffee.

So brew up a pot of Arbuckles’ partner and enjoy the Sunrise!”

Getting back to the carving….the cattle drive hash slinger has just brewed up a fresh pot and with several cups he’s ready to roust the boys with a hot cup of wake up!  Those cups he’s holding are actually made out of tin with a soldered rim and bottom.  The Arbuckles crate was copied off of one in the Cowboy Hall of Fame in OKC.  From the apron he’s wearing you can bet there are fresh biscuits waiting over at the chuckwagon.

Comments welcome as always.  Don’t forget to subscribe for future posts.

Your YouTube instructional videos helped bring me to the next level in this hobby. Never approaching anything you’ve accomplished but so much better than where I started.
    Thank you
