Apache – Ready To Paint

Originally published on July 27, 2014 Put the final knife strokes to this one this morning so he’s destined for the paint table.  Still have to do some more detail on the lance and shield, i.e. feathers, etc. but it’s basically finished.  Should be quiet colorful once it’s completed.  Also, was lucky enough to have…

Cowboy

Originally published on July 24, 2014 This one is all finished but the painting.  He’s a big one…standing about 22″ tall.  He will be holding a lariat loop in one hand and the coiled excess in the other.  Should make for an interesting piece.  Will hopefully use him in a rather big experiment should things…

Apache

Originally published on July 24, 2014 Here’s one I’ve been working on over the past couple of days.  So far he’s looking pretty good.  That base is not the one that will be on the finished article….just something I had handy to make the thing look a little better.  He should be pretty colorful once…

The Old Scout

Here’s a new one!  Not much to say other than it captures figure and the paint looks pretty good.  I’ve got to say though that painting things like a knife design is hard on my old eyes.  Just can’t do it like I used to. Appreciate your comments.

“Shifty”- Not Me! The Other Guy!

Well….it’s been a while since I’ve been able to set down and make a couple of new entries on the Blog.  Boxing up and mailing out all the carvings that were sold a few weeks back plus the usual chores around the place has really occupied all our time.  Then there was the constant worry…

WOW!

Over the past several months I was repeatedly asked “When are you going to start selling carvings again?”  Well, with a lot of hesitation I did just that earlier this week.  Boy!  I was not prepared for the response that that generated.  Right now the shop looks more like a packing operation than any woodcarving…

Spotted Horse – Finished

This carving is not much different than several I’ve carved before but I think it turned out pretty nice.  He has sort of a regal look about him and his robe conveys what’s no doubt upper most on his mind. Comments welcome.

Custer

I’ve done this one in smaller versions in the past so thought I would try a larger one.  Also, it gave me a change to add a couple extra details, one that I wasn’t aware of. When doing some research for this one I noted that in some photos of him there appeared to be…

“MEDIC!”

Originally published on June 12, 2014 Here’s a little quickie I finished yesterday.  While I’ve done this character a couple of times in the past this time I made his situation just a little more intense.  The arrow is a piece of 1/8″dowel with plastic feathers and a hammered copper arrowhead.  To accommodate the arrowhead…

A Good Trade

Back in the 1800’s when this Rockie Mountain Rendezvous occured, this Mountain man managed to swap a few beaver pelts for a pretty nice blanket.  It will no doubt come in handy on cold winter nights high in the mountains. I think Beaded Blanket strips are one of the most colorful items associated with Native…
