The Old Scout

Here’s a new one!  Not much to say other than it captures figure and the paint looks pretty good.  I’ve got to say though that painting things like a knife design is hard on my old eyes.  Just can’t do it like I used to. Appreciate your comments.

“You Don’t Know Jack!”

Actually, you probably do after all the posts lately about him.  Here is the other, larger head of Mr. Palance mounted as a bust.  I changed the color of his neckerchief a bit by adding some iridescent light green to the black.  I also painted the back of his vest with iridescent burnt orange to…

Patterns

I received a call yesterday evening from a new subscriber requesting where he could find patterns of carvings I’ve done.  Although you can find certain patterns on the Youtube videos on my channel I thought I would attach a few of them to this post.  He also mentioned that he was having trouble moving through…

Red Horse – Finished At Last!

Originally published on March 17, 2014 I gave this one it’s final touch-up this morning so he’s on his way to make a debut at the Kansas City show this coming weekend.  He’s a tall one….topping out at approximately 24″.  One thing I learned while doing this one…it’s a lot easier on my old eyes…

Just A Little Off The Top! – Finished!

Originally published on March 4, 2014 Disaster!  Why me? I blame it on the cold weather or my not warming up the shop before applying the mirror as it cracked!  You know what they say about breaking a mirror so I don’t know what the future of this piece will be but, so far, it’s…

Half Breed – Finished

Wrapped this one up yesterday.  Had my doubts about him but he turned out pretty good after all.  Tried a little darker complexion by adding some brown to the flesh mixture.  I like it. Comments welcome.

El Jefe

Originally published in 2012 I haven’t decided on a name for this fella yet.  Would like to call him Santiago but I’ve used that one already, same goes for Pancho, Pedro, Pablo,  so will continue my search for a good one. He’s pretty good sized, standing about 15″ with the base. Comments welcome.

The Bottom of the Pile!

Originally published in 2012.  Here’s a busted up Buckaroo who I just finished this morning.  From the looks of him Happy Hour down at the Gold Nugget Saloon didn’t end too well by the looks of the fat lip, the cracked skull and the swelling shiner, not to mention the shot up hat.  I was…

Checkin’ Her Out!

Originally published in 2011. I can’t say whether he’s looking at the 4 legged filly in the round pen or the 2 legged one setting on the fence.  Whichever, by the look on his face I think he approves of what he sees! For a while I had my doubts about the paint job on…

The Dog Soldier – Finished!

Originally published in September 2011 I spent most of Sunday and all this morning finishing this fella up.  All I can say is WOW!  He really turned out well and I’m sure will be one of the best examples of my efforts so far.–I’m not really sure just how many feathers are in his headdress…at…
