Carving A Small Cowboy Bust – Part 3

Carving A Small Cowboy Bust – Part 3

You’ve hopefully made it this far and now all that’s left is the painting.  A simple work-shirt Blue and Red for the bandana.  I used a toothpick to make the little Dot designs.  For the hat it’s a color called Parchment but you can choose another if you’d like.  The skin tones are made with light washes of Red Iron Oxide and Yellow Ochre with an extremely light wash of Midnight Blue on the eyelids and five o’clock shadow areas.  You can find out how I do this on one of the other Youtube videos I’ve posted.  Asphaltum Brown for the hair,  mustache, and hatband.

I made my base out of walnut stained dark, leaving an area in front for a brass nameplate.  A lot of carvers still don’t consider the importance of a nice back for their work.  Believe me…..it’s what sells the carving.

I hope you had fun with this little guy.  Appreciate your comments.

I might be a little man in a big world but on our 30 acres I'm the one in charge when the wife's not around!
